From Kindergarten age nothing was more certain to me than my destiny as an author. From the pages of the first unicorn fiction work to the devastating story of a leprechaun and even the 150k word fantasy novel published a few years ago - the written word would change my world.
The Young Author's contest was the focal point of my young imagination, and I set pen to paper with the finest plot any nine-year old could ever imagine. Determined to write something remarkable.
And here I am.
Some people are incredible orators. Their speeches gather thousands, drawing in the masses with thunderous applause and a renewed motivation to change for the better.
Not me. Something about spilling thoughts to paper is so refreshing, therapeutic and poetic. At times I sit and reminisce over entries in old journals, reliving humorous memories of my children that would have been lost if not recorded. And better yet, re-reading childhood diaries that consist of every meal eaten for every day for several years. True story. (We ate a lot of potatoes and roast!)
A finished Dystopian is in the process of a final edit (about a third of the way through), yet I keep dragging my feet. For what? Fear of rejection? Fear of having to start on the sequel!
It is a daunting task to write a story created by the imagination and characters that evolve on their own. Even to the point of a blasted love triangle. Yes, I am pulling my hair wanting to scream at those terrible characters (who, should I remind you, AREN'T EVEN REAL) for creating an impossible scenario in which I have to somehow solve. It happens and it's rather annoying.
The book will be finished, soon I hope. My greatest dream is to be a successful author, not for the money and fame, in fact - I think fame would really be awkward for me and everyone that had to watch (let's just say I'm quirky *WINK*). Really, to be successful would mean that the words I've formed, the plot and characters that have taken shape have grabbed a large, captivated audience. And THAT is something pretty spectacular. It's almost surreal to think that such a thing is possible.
One day...it will happen. You see...I'm determined to keep trying until that large audience can't help but keep turning the pages of my book.
Page after page.
