Daily Steps for Peace

Personal peace, I find, comes easily and at other moments it takes a great deal of patience, faith, and understanding - a conscious effort to fully attain.  The times it comes so easily I have noticed are because of some very important habits.

First - Daily spiritual meditation (done in the morning immediately after waking.) This will begin every day with spiritual eyes, opening the view of the day with gratitude instead of burden. It has been an incredible experience to notice the stark contrast of the days that I arise early and devote 30-60 minutes to spiritual meditation versus the mornings that I lay in bed 'til the boys beg for breakfast and then I hum-bug my way through the morning and afternoon. It is real, folks! Begin the day ALWAYS with spiritual meditation.

Secondly - controlling thoughts. As a writer and lover of the imagination, that also brings either doomsday screenplays or tear-jerker romances. When my thoughts take control of the pilot seat there ain't nothin' but a straight nose-dive into the big blue ocean, As the ability to reign in thoughts sharpens, and you become a master of everything you think, your daily world will shift perspectives. What you think about - comes about.

Which leads nicely into...

Words of Affirmation. These are not just meant for your significant other, family members, children, friends...but yourself.
I learned from an incredible friend of mine the importance of clearing out the bad and putting in the good. Words of Affirmation. I can't tell you how many times I've shut the door to my room, sat cross-legged on my bed (alone - after the boys are in bed), and closed my eyes. What is bothering me? What have I let bring me down? Then I remind myself of all the good.
I am safe. I am loved. I am divine. I create my future and I love where I am going.
Say words of affirmation aloud, so that you can hear and feel them.

Many times when I feel icky with negativity and burdened by 'life', this self-affirming practice has taken away the burdens and lifted my soul. Sometimes it's only for a moment, and other times it's for a few days. Regardless of how long it lasts, it brings peace.

Fourth and one of the most important - Prayer brings immeasurable peace that can not be found in any other way. Not just 'prayer' but a sincere, time-does-not-matter communion with God. The 4 great pillars of prayer (according to me that is) are Respect, Reverence, Relationship and Report.
Respectfully speak to God.
Reverence His name.
Build your Relationship.
Report on life. - This one has made huge strides for me. Spend time speaking of your worries, pains, as well as joys and successes. Report to your God that loves you and seek understanding.

"There never can come to the world that spirit of peace and love...until mankind will receive God's truth and God's message..., and acknowledge his power and authority which is divine."
Joseph F. Smith
